Hi, I’m Ali
I teach movement with purpose, creating a safe and nurturing space which allows you to unplug from the busyness of life and reconnect with your wondrous self. I invite you to breathe, relax and enjoy being back in relationship with your body and breath. The power we have to change and heal our body is immense – all we need to do is have the willingness to begin and then be consistent in our efforts to feel and see the results. Let me guide you along that path.
I really enjoy educating my students about their bodies. I think it is important to understand how the body works and what we are looking to affect with any given exercise or movement discipline. Also, how this has a direct correlation to our own lives and makes us better movers, more comfortable in our bodies and therefore, more confident. This is very empowering as it puts the responsibilty for a healthy, strong, balanced, flexible and pain free body firmly back into your own hands. I always try to bring what is most relevant and powerful to my classes and privates in a fun and lighthearted way.
About my offering
I began teaching Pilates in 2002. Before that I was a Personal Trainer and Massage Therapist, and I also taught exercise to music classes. I’ve always taught movement, and I absolutely love it! It isn’t so much a job as a vocation… a calling.
Over the years, my Pilates practice and teaching has been heavily influenced by yoga, Hanna Somatics and Katy Bowman’s Nutritious Movement approach. Focus on the breath, release, mobility and functional strength and flexibility all combine to provide a variety-rich, interesting and fun workout and work-in!
I picked up my first book on yoga for a few rupees in India in 1997. Now I have a whole library! My initial interest back then lay in the internal/organic effects of Pranayama (breathing exercise), Kriya (cleaning techniques) and Asana (postures), as well as the energetic effects these ancient teachings have on our systems. I began practicing and reaping almost immediate benefits, and was hooked.
These days, my interest also includes the profound effect yoga has on directing and calming the mind through meditation, particularly as life has become so busy and more of us are suffering with anxiety and depression.
My yoga is best decribed as Hatha slow-flow, breath-led and gentle – the perfect way ‘home’.
I am one of the few teachers of Somatics in the South West.
I teach Hanna Somatics, which is a gentle and yet profound technique to release muscular tension and pain through movement. It’s the perfect compliment to Pilates and yoga; more gentle, and yet it goes deeper to the heart of the physical problem because it incorporates the brain.
Somatics is excellent for treating back pain, tight shoulders, necks, hips, knees, painful/stiff hands and feet…you name it. My students love it when I incorporate Somatics into my yoga and Pilates classes, and I use it especially in my private work.
I am now teaching a Somatic Yoga class in the New Oriel Hall in Larkhall, Bath, which began on the 19th September 2017. Get in touch for more information and to book your place.

The rest of the week you can see me at The Osteopathy & Pilates Studio.
Ali is wonderfully personable, caring, and empathetic. She teaches Pilates with immense skill and precision, and with a great sense of fun.
The hour flies by and I always leave feeling balanced, relaxed and destressed both mentally and physically.Jo J
A natural born teacher. Passionate, engaging, inspiring. I always come away feeling amazing, as if Ali intuits exactly which parts of my body need attention. Wouldn’t be without my weekly ‘Ali fix’. Highlight of my week!Tina L
Your Sunday Yoga class was a revelation. I can honestly say 90 minutes has never passed as fast, with me arriving in a bit of an intrepid tizz to leaving in a state of happiness, awareness and gratitude. Your teaching style is kind, clear and individualised – even in a group. It set me up perfectly for an important week work-wise. Very grateful indeed.Jo S
